Metals and Hallmarks

The metal block on the wizard captures both the metal itself and any hallmarking that authenticates it.

Precious metals supported

  • Gold: 9k (375), 14k (585), 18k (750), 22k (916), 24k (999)
  • Silver: Sterling (925), Britannia (958), Fine (999)
  • Platinum: 850, 950, 999
  • Palladium: 500, 950, 999

Weight

Total metal weight in grams. For multi-piece sets enter the combined weight, with per-piece breakdown in Description.

Hallmarks

Free-text field for the hallmarking authority and date letter. Common UK examples:

  • 750 + leopard's head + date letter: 18ct gold, London assay office
  • 950 + anchor + Pt: platinum, Birmingham assay office

International equivalents (US karat marks, French eagle's head, Swiss St. Bernard's head, etc.) are accepted as written.

Live pricing

The Metal Pricing module pulls live spot prices for Au, Ag, Pt, Pd every 10 minutes from gold-api.com. The Value Calculator there gives you a metal-only floor — replacement value normally adds a 2–4× retail factor on top.

Plated and filled items

Mark these explicitly in Description ("Gold-filled", "Rolled gold", "Vermeil" etc.). They have negligible intrinsic value and shouldn't be valued at karat-gold rates.
